Last Week’s Workouts Recap (1/5-1/11)

neon (3)This week was a tough and busy week, but I got through it. I started Insanity Max:30 on Monday. This program is pretty insane! It’s 30 minutes of intense cardio with strength moves too. There’s some breaks but it feels like I’m constantly moving. I hope to improve on my max out times each week. My max out time is the longest I can go without taking a break that’s not given. We’ll see how it goes with half marathon training. It’s a two month program, so I should finish it at the end of February. In regards to half marathon training, I’m following the Asics app and this was the plan. I like how it gives guideline paces.IMG_1825Here’s what I did:

Monday – Day 1 of Insanity Max:30 – Cardio Challenge. Max out time was 7:49. 2015/01/img_1869.jpg

Tuesday – I ran 3 miles and then did Day 2 of Insanity Max:30 – Tabata Power. Max out time was 9:44.

Wednesday – I did day 3 of Insanity Max:30 – Sweat Intervals with my hubby. Maxed out at 8:23. Then in the afternoon, I ran five miles.

Thursday – I switched run days and ran five miles instead of on Friday since my little guy has Preschool. Then later did Insanity Max:30 – Tabata Power. Maxed out at 9:43. I did not improve on this time and was one second ahead of last time. Those side to side plyo push-ups are tough.

Friday – Day 5 of Insanity Max:30 – Friday Fight Round 1. I maxed out at 8:12.

Saturday – Rest Day

Sunday – Ran 7.5 miles.

SUMOgrip Lace Locks Review and GIVEAWAY

Do your shoelaces ever get untied mid run? Do you hate double knotting your shoes or hate it when your laces aren’t long enough to double knot? Worry no more. SUMOgrips solve shoelace problems and are pretty cool! I was able to try these lace locks free of charge in exchange for a review. My opinions are my own. /home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/77e/68168024/files/2015/01/img_1777.jpg

The SUMOgrip Lace Locks are so easy to use. All you have to do is tie your laces however you normally do and then slide the SUMOgrip under the knot. Then you secure the ends together until you hear the click and you’re set. /home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/77e/68168024/files/2015/01/img_1776.jpg

I’ve tried these on a couple of runs on the treadmill and outside. My laces stayed secure and did not come undone. I can’t even feel that they’re there. Pretty Cool!! I usually tie my laces using a double knot method. I tried the SUMOgrips without double knotting and they worked great! I like the idea of not having to double knot my laces especially with short laces. It’s awesome knowing that they are secure with the SUMOgrips. There’s no need to worry about my laces. Here’s a pic of what the SUMOgrips looks like on my shoelaces.
ON NOW

I even put them on my kiddo’s shoes. I think these are perfect for him too haha. His laces seem to get undone more than mine. I tried them on his shoes when we were out and about for the day, and sure enough, his laces stayed secure. The only negative thing I see about them is that they can be hard to unsnap. It just takes a little more time to unsnap and untie the shoes. You can always just slip your feet out of your shoes without taking them off :P. But taking your shoes off doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. It’s all about the laces not getting untied and the SUMOgrips work.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/77e/68168024/files/2015/01/img_1822.jpg

The SUMOgrips Lace Locks are great for the entire family!

Pros:

  • Keeps laces secure.
  • Light weight.
  • No stopping midrun to tie laces.
  • Durable.
  • Don’t have to worry about laces.
  • Don’t have to double knot.
  • Easy to transfer from different pairs of shoes.
  • Great for kids too.

Cons:

  • Can be a little cumbersome taking off and will just take a little time to get used to.

I think SUMOgrips are great!! Check them out here http://www.sprgear.com/en/en/3-sumogrip-lace-locks . They range in price from $4.49-$4.99, depending on if you want them to be reflective.

2014 – Year in Pictures – Races

I’m linking up with Tuesdays on the Run – MCM Mama Runs, My No-Guilt Life, and Run the Great Wide Somewhere. This week’s topic is “Your Year in Pictures”. I’ve decided to show pics from this year’s actual races, not virtual. This year marks the most races I’ve ran in a year. It’s been a great year of running for me. Here they are:

March 2. I ran the Hot Chocolate 5k in Seattle. That was a fun one that I ran with my sister-in-law. I loved the dipping chocolate post race! That was my first 5k in a long while with a time of 26:13.hotchocolate

May 17. The Portland Rock’n’Roll Half Marathon. This was my third consecutive time doing this race. I love the crowd support! I PR’d in this race! 🙂

20140518-204641-74801716.jpgJune 21. The Seattle Rock’n’Roll Half Marathon was another fun one! I ran this one with my sister. Loved the scenic route! 20140622-200036-72036579.jpg

August 9. XTERRA Hagg Lake Trail Run 5k. This was my first ever trail race. I think trail running is hard but it was a great first experience. It was a small race and I managed to get fourth overall for the females.

IMG_7322September 13. The Oregon Half Marathon. This was a great course. I PR’d on my half time! 🙂IMG_8200October 25. The Halloweenathon 10k. This was my first Official 10k race which took place at a golf course. Despite the muddy course, it was fun. I was happy to find out that I got third out of all the females that ran the 10k!IMG_9437

Well, that was my year of races. This year, I enjoyed running a lot more. I’m happy I PR’d in the half marathon twice this year. I’m hoping to continue to PR in 2015.

How did your year in running go?

#Earthathon – a Virtual Relay Around the Earth

earthathonWho wants to join a fun event on Twitter that involves running, walking, jogging or hiking? Join Earthathon, a virtual relay around the earth. It is currently on its inaugural lap around the approximate circumference of the earth, 25,000 miles. As of this post Earthathoners from around the world have traveled 20,294.4 of 25,000 miles, getting close to finishing the first lap.

Earthathon was created by @GoRunHappy as a way to motivate others to exercise regularly. It’s picked up and for 2015, he’s set up ten teams to run a relay around the earth. The teams will combine and complete a total of 250,000 miles, which is the approximate distance to the moon. There will be ten teams but they are just a part of the bigger picture of “One Team, One Planet.” Once a team finishes their leg of the relay, they will help the other teams. When all teams have finished, they will have accomplished finishing a 250,000 mile relay. How cool is that?

Here is the list of the ten teams:earthathon2015teams-toshare

I was honored to be chosen to be a team captain of one of the ten teams :). My team is #RunderfulRunners which consists of my awesome Co-Leaders: @shanks324 and @runninrocker.

Do you want to be a part of Earthathon? It’s really easy to join. All you need is a Twitter account and just tweet your miles and add #earthathon and the hashtag of the team you pick. Then fill out a quick form HERE so that your miles are logged (password is run).

You can pick the team you want to run for HERE.

Last Week’s Workout Recap (12/1-12/7)

I think I had a great week of workouts. I was still in Colorado Springs until Tuesday and got in my runs for the Runner’s World Run Streak. I will miss running at such a beautiful place! It was so cool to be close to Garden of the Gods! I then continued with the Insanity the Asylum workouts.

On Monday, I ran 1.05 mi for day 5 of the #RWRunStreak! It was 14 deg F out and lightly snowing. That didn’t stop me. It was nice to do a quick run at Garden of the Gods!

IMG_0568.JPG
I couldn’t pass up another opportunity to run at Garden of the Gods. I ran with my Brother-in-law and a got a 2nd run in. As you can see from the pic, the snow didn’t stick around long.

IMG_0643.JPG

IMG_0784.JPG

Sunday – I ran my mile. It’s day 11 for the Runner’s World Run Streak. I know I’m not running that far but a mile is a mile and I’m still streaking. 🙂day11rwstreakI also did Asylum Game Day and Overtime. Oh my! Both of those tough, especially Overtime which I somewhat did. I was so pooped I was watching most of it. It has some killer moves. But I got my sweat on!gameday

Last Week’s Workouts Recap (11/24-11/30)

I did one Insanity the Asylum workout this week which put me halfway through the program. I put it on hold until we get back from Thanksgiving break. But I think I had a great week for being on vacation. I started the Runner’s World run streak. From Thanksgiving to New Year’s day, I will run at least a mile a day everyday.

streak-page-header

On Monday, I did Day 15 of the Insanity the Asylum, Speed & Agility with the hubby. I had a great workout and was dripping sweat at the end of it!IMG_0254.JPG

Tuesday was a rest day. I was traveling most of the day.

On Wednesday, we went hiking at Red Rock Canyon. It’s such a beautiful place!
IMG_0330.JPG

On Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, I started the Runner’s World Run Streak.  I ran with my Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law at Garden of the Gods. It’s so awesome that they live so close and we can just run there! It was a tough run with hills, but a great workout.

IMG_0355.JPG

Friday we started the day off hiking at Stratton Open Space.IMG_0364.JPGThen I ran 2.87 miles with my Sister-in-law to get day 2 of the streak done. We passed by deer while running. It’s amazing how the deer don’t run off when they see people. Look how close I am. If you look closely in the back, there’s more deer.
IMG_0415.JPG

On Saturday, I ran with my Sister-in-law to Garden of the Gods and did a nice 2.12 mile loop.

IMG_0450.JPG

On Sunday, I had another great run with my Sister-in-law.
IMG_0459.JPG

Afterwards we went hiking at Red Rock Canyon again. I think I will be doing another post with more pictures from Red Rock Canyon and Stratton. They are great places to hike.

It was nice to get workouts in while on vacation, especially because of all the food I ate. 🙂 How’d your week go?

Last Week’s Workouts Recap (11/17-11/23)

I had a pretty good week of workouts. This was my second week of Insanity the Asylum and it’s going well. The workouts are tough but I always push through and do what I can. On Friday, I got the awesome news that I was finally matched with an IRUN4 buddy. He’s the cutest 11 month old boy, and his name is Caysen. He was diagnosed with Down Syndrome a week after he was born. I’m happy and honored to run for him. 🙂 On to the workouts:

Monday was Day 8 of Insanity the Asylum – Back to Core workout. This one gives a great back workout. I love it when my four year old jumps in at times and works out with me! He does pretty good too!

IMG_0016.JPG

Tuesday was Game Day. We swapped this one instead of Vertical Plyo since it fit our schedule better since it’s so long. This one’s a great workout. It focuses on different sports and you’ll definitely get your sweat on!

IMG_0045.JPG

Here’s a video preview of Game Day:

Wednesday was Relief – a great stretch routine.

IMG_0085.JPG

Thursday was Vertical Plyo. This one’s really tough! I managed to do a few plyo pushups this time. 😛IMG_0109.JPG

Friday was the Back to Core workout again.
IMG_0122.JPG

Saturday was the Strength workout. I was courageous to up my weight usage and used 10 lbs instead of 8 lbs and I did pretty well. I also felt motivated to run a mile for my IRUN4 buddy, Caysen. It was my first run for him. 🙂

IMG_0191.JPG

Sunday – I decided to run 5 miles and then did Day 15 of Insanity the Asylum – Relief. Felt good to do a stretch routine!IMG_0226.JPGHow’d your week go? Hope you have a good one!!

Last Week’s Workouts Recap – Started Insanity the Asylum (11/10-11/16)

I’ve started Shaun T’s Insanity the Asylum Workout Program and OMG it’s tough! I’m happy it’s only 30 days haha. All the workouts so far are hard but a great challenge. If I keep it up, I should be in tip top shape. I still might go for a run here and there, especially since I will be getting my IRun4 buddy really soon. On Saturday’s official waiting list, I was number 57! So close!

On to the workouts…on Monday, Day 1 was Speed and Agility. This was the first time using an agility ladder and I thought it was fun.
IMG_9880.JPG

Here’s a video preview of Speed & Agility:

I also refreshed with resource Natural Spring Water. It’s very refreshing water during and after the workout. Thanks Influenster for letting me test the product! It tasted great.

Wednesday, day 3 was Back to Core. This one really works your back. I was really sore from the previous workouts.

IMG_9920.JPG

Here’s a video preview of Back to Core:

Thursday, day 4 was Vertical Plyo. OMG this is the hardest one so far! I was still sore so I didn’t even attempt the Plyo push-ups lol. I did what I could.
IMG_9955.JPG

Here’s a video preview of Vertical Plyo:

Friday, day 5 was a much needed Rest Day!
IMG_9962.JPG

Saturday, day 6 was Speed & Agility again. Here I’m doing a much needed stretch during cool down.IMG_9980.JPG

Sunday, day 7 was Strength. I’m happy to say I’m no longer sore, but I might be tomorrow lol.IMG_0003.JPG
