Portland Marathon Training Week 3 – Workouts Recap and Weekend Update

I’d say week 3 of Portland Marathon Training went well. I got my scheduled runs in and on July 4th, I completed the Runner’s World Summer Run Streak. Woohoo! 41 days of running at least a mile of day completed! That is my longest run streak ever! The last one I did ended at 37 days. IMG_5367

Here’s what I did last week:

Monday – Ran a mile and then did Insanity Max:30 Cardio Challenge. Had a great sweat session and maxed out at 17:32.Tuesday – Ran 3 miles.
Wednesday – Ran 6 miles.  Thursday – Ran a mile to continue the run streak and then did P90X3 Dynamix. This is a great recovery workout with dynamic exercises/stretches.
Friday – Ran 6 or so miles. My GPS was wacky that day on my Garmin. Not sure what happened there, but it was a first and of course it happens when I go a different route. Strava had me at 6.8 miles.  Saturday – Ran 9 early morning miles outside before hubby went to work and then finished with 3 miles on the treadmill for 12 miles total. Saturday marked the end of the Runner’s World Run Streak and I feel somewhat relieved that it’s over lol. I like rest days.

Sunday – Rest day

Now onto the weekend update, here are the highlights.

On Friday, I took the kiddos to the movies and we watched Inside Out. I thought it was a cute one. It had me laughing at parts and the kiddos enjoyed it.Saturday was July 4th so the kiddos had fun with some fireworks. It would have been fun to go watch a big show, but I had to work on Sunday. My kiddos enjoyed the smoke bombs and sparklers we got them.   How’d your weekend go? See any good movies lately?

Friday Five: Five Things I’m Loving This 4th of July

It’s Friday! I’m linking up once again with Eat Pray Run DCYou Signed Up for What?! and Mar on the Run for their Friday Five Linkup. This week’s theme is the “4th of July” and so here are five things I’m loving this 4th of July:

1. Love seeing fireworks, but we’ll probably just get some sparklers and not watch a big live show. I have to work the next day. Here’s a cute but old pic when we watched fireworks at Rockaway Beach, OR.

2. The Runner’s World run streak ends on the fourth of July. This will be my longest run streak at 41 days. It was a good streak but I’ll be looking forward to my rest days now that I’m marathon training.IMG_5367

3. The 2nd Earthathon Relay has just started and I’m looking forward to contributing my miles. It’s not too late to join. It’s a fun and free virtual relay with ten teams competing the distance of the circumference of the earth. It’s fun, great motivation, and a great way to meet runners all over the world. All you need is a Twitter account. You can learn more at earthathonrelay.com. We could use your miles on team RunderfulRunners. 🙂IMG_27354. It’s been sooo hot lately, I’m loving these Yasso mint chocolate chip frozen greek yogurt bars. So good! I got them at Costco.

5. I’m also loving my new hat which is also a heart rate monitor. It’s called the LifeBeam Smart Hat. I splurged and got it with a coupon code since I don’t like wearing the chest strap heart rate monitors. It works great and pairs with my Garmin!

What are you loving right now? Any plans this July 4th weekend?

Hope you have a great weekend and be sure to check out the other blogs!

Portland Marathon Training Week 2 – Last Week’s Workouts (6/22-6/28) and Weekend Update

It was a good week of workouts. I’m still mostly following Hal Higdon’s intermediate 1 marathon training plan with DVD workouts on some days. It was week 4 on that plan. I’m also continuing the Runner’s World Run Streak. There’s one more week left since it ends on July 4th. Woohoo!

Here’s what last week’s of workouts looked like:

Monday – Ran a mile to continue the streak and then did Focus T25 Total Body Circuit.

Tuesday – Ran three miles.Wednesday – Had a nice early morning 6 miler.  Thursday – Ran a mile and then did Insanity Max: 30 Pulse and Ab Attack. It was my first time doing both. Pulse is a great recovery day workout and Ab Attack was good too except there was some of the same moves from Pulse.

Friday – Ran a nice 6 miles.

Saturday – Ran 7 miles before hubby went to work and then ran 4 miles on the treadmill to get my 11 mile total.

Sunday – Ran a mile to continue the streak for day 35 of the #RWRunStreak.

Now on to the weekend update. On Friday, my hubby and I celebrated 11 years together. Wow, I can’t believe it’s been that long already. This is not a recent pic but I like it. 🙂

On Saturday, the highlight of the day was my seven year old getting his Warrior Junior’s brown belt. He did a great job!

Sunday is a work day for me, so nothing exciting on that day. I did get some episodes in this weekend of Orange Is the New Black.

How’d your weekend go? Did you race?

Portland Marathon Training Week 1 – Last Week’s Workouts (6/15-6/21)

It’s begun! I’ve started training for the Portland Marathon. I guess I’m a little late to the program since most training plans are 18 weeks long. Last week was 16 weeks away. But I’ve decided to go with a modified Hal Higdon training plan. I liked using his plans while training for my many of my half marathons. I’ve ran eleven halves now. I’ll be adding Beachbody DVDs along with the plan. We’ll see how it goes. I’m also still doing the Runner’s World Run Streak until July 4th.

Here’s what I did last week:

Monday – Ran a mile to continue the #RWRunStreak. I still wanted to take it easy after the Seattle Rock’n’Roll Half Marathon.

Tuesday – Ran another mile.Wednesday – I would say I officially started my marathon training. Ran 5 miles.  Thursday – Ran a mile. I then did Insanity Core Cardio and Balance. I thought it was a good one to do since it’s the workout done during the recovery week of the Insanity program. My kiddos jumped in for a little bit.
Friday – Ran five miles.  Saturday – 8 miler.  Sunday – 1 mile to continue the #RWRunStreak.  That was my week of workouts.  Even though the Portland Marathon is still a ways away, I’m nervous about it. I still need to figure out how I’m going to be able to do my long runs on Saturday having the kiddos and all while my hubby works. I’ll figure it out.

How’d your week go? Any race plans?

Last Week’s Seattle Rock’n’Roll Half Marathon Training Workouts Recap (6/1-6/7)

It’s Wednesday night and I’m just now posting last week’s workouts recap. It’s been a busy week. There’s only three more days until the Seattle Rock’n’Roll Half Marathon. It should be a fun one. I just checked the weather and the high in Seattle will be 72 deg and low of 51 deg. It should be great running weather. I think my training has gone well even if I didn’t follow a specific plan since my last half marathon last month. I’m still doing the Runner’s World Run Streak too. Here’s what I did last week:

Monday – Ran 3 miles.Tuesday – Ran a fast 5 miles.  Wednesday – Two miles on the treadmill for National Running Day.  Thursday – I got some strength training in and did Focus T25’s Gamma Extreme Circuit. Then in the evening went for a run with a friend.  Friday – I continued the running streak and ran a mile with my lil guy.Saturday – Ran a nice and early 5 miles.Sunday – Ran a mile to continue the streak.  That’s my recap from last week. Once I’ve ran the Seattle Rock’n’Roll Half marathon, I’ll start training for my first marathon. Do you know of a good marathon training plan? I’m not sure what plan I’ll follow yet. Well, hope you’re having a great week!

Friday Five: 5 Reasons to Run

It’s Friday! I’m linking up once again with Eat Pray Run DCYou Signed Up for What?! and Mar on the Run for their Friday Five Linkup. This week’s theme is – National Running Day which was on Wednesday. In honor of National Running Day I’m giving you five reasons I run.

1. To stay healthy and fit. Running is a great way to get in shape as well as maintain fitness and health.

2. To push myself. Running has been a great outlet in allowing me to realize I can do things I would never have attempted. For example, I will be running my first marathon in October. I’ve taken the plunge to do something I thought was crazy before.IMG_1783

3. Because I can. There are many that would love to run but can’t like those in the IRUN4 community. I have an IRUN4 buddy and I’m honored to run for Caysen who has Down Syndrome.

4. Feels good. Especially after a run, I usually feel great. Knowing that I’ve accomplished something good for my body, or finished a race, or went faster or longer than I’ve gone before is awesome! You know the feeling.

IMG_36005. To be a good example for my kids. I want them to live healthy and active lives.

Why do you run?

Hope you have a great weekend and be sure to check out the other blogs!
