Three mile run today

20140514-111108.jpgI haven’t been strictly following a certain half marathon schedule but mostly it’s been a version of Hal Higdon’s intermediate schedule and this one http://www.logyourrun.com/index.php?option=com_program&task=view&Itemid=65&graphics&start_date=2011-03-17&type&id=284 . I did three miles today and it was a tempo run. I ran easy for the first mile and built up my speed for the second mile and some of the third mile. Then I ran easy for the last part of the third mile. My splits were 8:31, 8:10, and 8:35. Not bad, I guess.

It was a nice day to run and was already hot at 61 degrees Fahrenheit at 8:52 in the morning. That’s hot for Oregon right now! I think it’s supposed to reach 90 degrees. Well, hope you have a great day! Stay cool! 🙂

Four mile Tuesday run

20140513-105726.jpgToday’s run was a four miler. It was a nice day out and is supposed to get around 82 degrees out later on. According to Garmin Connect it was 50 degrees out when I was running but felt much hotter. I ran the four miles at a pretty fast pace. My last mile was really fast at 8:11 min. I had passed a runner at the light and then she sped past me a little later. I thought I was fast, she’s a speed demon lol. I think that’s what made me go faster on my last mile. Well, five more days until my half marathon!

Are you running or working out today? Happy Tuesday!

Sunday run – last long run before half marathon.

20140511-211615.jpg
Today’s run wasn’t a good one. I was planning on running at least ten miles today but that didn’t happen. I’m not sure what happened or why I ended up getting a bad side ache which made me stop running. On top of that I stumbled and fell due to a crack in the sidewalk around 8.5 miles. Boy, did I feel stupid lol. I’m not sure if anyone saw. But I had a bad run day. I don’t think I drank enough water before my run and I didn’t carry any. Oh wells. I just hope I do well on my half marathon next Sunday.

Manitou Springs Incline Hike

Here’s a look back at a hike I did the day after Christmas. Enjoy!

I was in Colorado Springs for the holidays and the day after Christmas I decided to challenge myself and hike the Manitou Springs Incline with my Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law. I had never heard of it until we got there and my Brother-in-law mentioned it while driving and showing us around.

Manitou Springs is right by Colorado Springs and the Incline is a popular hike and fitness challenge. It’s an old railway and the hike up is the remains of the tracks. It’s about a one mile hike with a 2000 ft elevation gain, so it’s pretty much straight up. I thought it was an amazing hike! I got a great leg workout….all the stairs, or wooden tracks as you’ll see in the pictures below. It’s a hard hike! It’s pretty steep and some of the stairs are kind of high and there’s pipes you have to go over along the way. There’s even a bailout point about 2/3’s the way up where you can go down if you don’t want to continue to the top. I’m happy I made it to the top!! The views were awesome and the day I went seemed to be perfect! It’s worth it, I’d do it again! Awesome workout too!!ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageThe picture below is the bailout point.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageI see the top.ImageImageSelfie at the top. lolImageChristmas tree at the top.ImageMy Brother-in-law, Jeff, at the top.ImageMe at the top.ImageMy Sister-in-law, Caitlin, at the top.ImageAll of us. 🙂ImageHeading back down a different way.ImageImageImageImageImageImageIf you look really close in the picture below, you can see people going up the incline.Image

Today’s workout – Focus T25 Speed 3.0

20140510-150253.jpg
I decided to do Focus T25’s Gamma Speed 3.0 workout. I felt like getting a major sweat on and this workout never disappoints! After this workout, I was dripping sweat on the floor lol. It’s a fast paced workout with lots of burpee moves.

If you like burpees, this is a good one for you! This workout has burpee + plank walks, burpee + spider lunges, burpee + push-up jacks, burpee + ski abs, burpee + pike-ups, and burpee + front kicks. Those are just the burpee moves. This is an awesome cardio workout! Just like all the T25 workouts, it’s only 25 minutes!

Who else is exercising today, or did already?

Friday Evening Run

20140509-212106.jpg

I got in an evening run today. I decided to do a 5k today to see what my 5k time was like and I sure went fast! My hard work has payed off. This is my fastest run ever! 🙂

20140509-212221.jpg

My half marathon is approaching fast. I’ll probably cross train tomorrow and do a workout DVD. Then I have my long run on Sunday. After that it’s one more week and Sunday is the big day!! Getting excited!

Do you have an event coming up or a big race?

OMG, these are good! barkTHINS snacking chocolate

20140509-172659.jpg

Have you tried these? I got this bag of barkTHINS snacking chocolate with fruit from Costco. It’s the Blueberry Quinoa flavor with agave. These are so good! I had a couple of pieces after my dinner and it makes for a great dessert. The quinoa makes it crispy and sort of reminds me of a Crunch bar, and the blueberries add to the flavor of the dark chocolate. It’s so yummy!

I like how it’s made with natural ingredients. I didn’t know what Fair Trade Certified means, but the dark chocolate is Fair Trade.  I decided to look up what the Fair Trade dark chocolate meant on their website and found this:

A Fair trade chocolate label guarantees consumers that the farmers who grow the cocoa beans we use in our chocolate are getting paid a fair price. It also means that they are following good agricultural practices and are investing in their farms and communities. Under Fair trade, farmers can increase their incomes and gain access to better education and healthcare for their families. All of our Dark Chocolate flavors are certified by the Fair Trade USA organization. To learn more, please visit their website.www.fairtradeusa.org

It’s nice to know that the farmers are getting paid at a fair price and are following good agricultural practices. It seems it benefits both farmers and consumers.

But with all sweets, these aren’t that healthy. There’s a lot of saturated fat – 5g which is 26% of daily value and lots of sugar -20g. I think everything is fine in moderation though :).20140509-172710.jpg

Have you tried these or a different flavor? What’s your favorite chocolate snack?
