Mizuno Wave Rider 20 Review

Why run when you can ride?  As in, ride the new Mizuno Wave Rider 20. 🙂  I was happy to get a chance to test out the newly designed Mizuno Wave Rider 20 thanks to Fitfluential and Mizuno. All opinions expressed are my own.

I got home late after work one evening and was excited to see the package. I got the Platinum 20 Wave Rider. Check out the cool silver box it came in! I love the silver and pink colors!

I have had some history with the Mizuno Wave Rider. This was the first shoe I bought after getting fitted into a Neutral shoe from a local running store years ago. I enjoyed those shoes, so I was eager to test these out. When I first put them on they were comfortable. It felt nice walking around in them. There’s great support in the heel area and the fit was good. The cushion felt great and felt like it would give a smooth ride when running.img_1427

On my first run, they felt pretty good at first but I think my feet are used to a wider toe box so I felt some pain in the toe area after a couple of miles in. I took them for another spin to see if the pain would go away but unfortunately it didn’t. I really wanted to like them but they didn’t work out for me. I think this is a well built and durable shoe. But for me it needs a little more room in the toe area. I usually wear a size 8 in running shoes and 7.5 in regular shoes. These were size 8, maybe a bigger size could help. But every runner is different so what doesn’t work for me, might work for you. You can check out the two other colors and more info about this shoe HERE.

Here are the key features of the newly refined Mizuno Wave Rider 20 according to their website:

KEY FEATURES

  • An all-new, redesigned cloudwave plate provides an overall softer, smoother ride
  • Articulated U4icX heel wedge creates more cushion
  • Top midsole foam incorporates a new U4ic foam compound that makes this version of the Wave Rider 33% more responsive and durable than previous models
  • Engineered mesh increases breathability, movement & hold
  • Softer heel collar helps avoid irritation without losing heel fit
  • Ramp: 12mm

It’s very cool that this is the 20th version of the Wave Rider! It’s a popular shoe.

Have you tried any version of the Mizuno Wave Rider? How’d you like them?

  1. Mizuno’s usually work well for me but they can always tweak something the wrong way – I’ll be interested to see if these are different. Love the colors
