Week 8 of marathon training is done! 12 more weeks to go. It still seems like a long ways away. Things seem to be going well though. I got in all my workouts and paced the 2:15 group at the Oregon Fall Half Marathon on Saturday. But here’s what last week’s workouts looked like from Coach Dawn‘s plan:
Monday – Ran an easy 5 miles to start the week. Tuesday – Ran a hill workout on the treadmill. Good thing I ran inside because the air quality was bad due to the wildfires. I was surprised to see ash on my car that morning. Workout was: 10 minutes easy at 1%, then 5 x 2 minutes at 4% grade- hard effort,
3 minutes easy in between, and 10-15 minutes easy at 1%. I had a snafu with my treadmill because I didn’t realize I picked an iFit workout that had a distance that wasn’t long enough, so the treadmill stopped during my 4th interval. Oh wells. I’m not sure how accurate my watch was but it says I ran 5.21 miles, avg. pace 8:38. I wasn’t able to get the treadmill data. I ran the easy part mostly at 6.4 mph and hard at 7.2 mph. It was a tough but good workout.Wednesday – Ran 6 recovery treadmill miles. My watch had me at 6.16 miles, avg. pace 9:32.
Thursday – I was happy to run outside. The air quality was much better. Got in a great workout:
15 minutes easy
15 minutes 8:15-20
1 min easy
15 minutes 8:00-8:15
2 min easy
15 minutes 7:55-8:05
10 minutes easy
My paces were pretty good so I was happy. You know it’s a good workout when you’re all sweaty afterwards. Friday – Ran 4.07 recovery miles.
Saturday – It’s always fun to run with others no matter how fast or slow. I had a good time pacing the 2:15 group at the Oregon Fall Half Marathon. We ended up going a little fast and slowed at the end to run someone in. My official time ended up being 2:15:03. Recap will be up later.
Sunday – Rest day.
Total miles = 42.1 miles. I’d say it was another good week of marathon training. Running on the treadmill wasn’t too bad but glad the air quality is back to normal. It’s always fun to pace a race even if it was at a pace that I don’t usually run. It’s actually tough going slower than normal and then there’s all that time on my feet too. I’m looking forward to this week though since it’s a cut back week. 🙂
As for the other highlights of the week:
Tuesday was the first day of school. I have a first and fourth grader now.
With the kids in school, my hubby wanted to watch the movie, IT and I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into. That is one scary clown!
See any movies lately? How’d your week go? Any races coming up?
I’m linking up with HoHo Runs and MissSippiPiddlin for the Weekly Wrap.
There’s a new Guest Host Series for the Weekly Wrap to give Holly and Tricia a break. This week’s host is Sara @ Sara Runs This Town. Be sure to check her out.I’m also linking up with Courtney, Eat Pray Run DC‘s training recap linkup.
Great week of training! I love to pace races but I haven’t done a half marathon distance yet for pacing.
Your boys are adorable! I hope they enjoyed their first day of school!

Congrats on another good week of training and that awesome half marathon!
You are very brave for watching IT! I definitely couldn’t do it as clowns freak me out lol

Thanks Kim! Lol, it wasn’t as bad as I thought.

I remember reading IT years ago and seeing the original television mini-series. It was scary back then too! Good old Pennywise — EEK. I think it would be fun to pace a group to a half marathon finish! You couldn’t have been any closer to your assigned time either. The kiddos are growing up so fast! I hope they have a great year at school.

I didn’t see the other movie and didn’t know there was a mini series. My hubby saw the original movie and thought this one was better. EEK is right! Thanks Holly!

Great week – how awesome of you to pace. And NO THANKS on IT. My sister terrified me with that movie when I was a kid and I have a fear of clowns now, lol. I can’t even watch the full trailer for the movie. eek!

Thanks Courtney! Haha. Sorry to hear your fear of clowns. It would be worse watching a movie like that when you’re a kid.

Haven’t seen any movies since Wonder Woman this summer! There were a few I really wanted to see, but just couldn’t get around to it.
I’ve never run with a pacer yet. Probably never will, since I run/walk and that makes things interesting.
Good job getting those treadmill miles in! It seems like there’s always a challenge — everywhere!

Thanks Judy! Challenges are good. Loved Wonder Woman!

You did great pacing your group to an (almost) perfect finish! I agree, it’s hard to run slower than what feels “normal” for you. I’m not especially fast, but it’s really tough trying to hold back when your body just want to go faster.

Wow, you did a great job with pacing to be only off by 3 seconds! I still have Spokane’s weather in my phone since we were there last year on vacation, and I’ve seen “smoke” in the forecast this past week! Because of forest fires, right?

Thanks Jennifer! Yes, most likely due to the forest fires.

I didn’t see a move in the theater all summer! Lol that Nathan took you to IT. I don’t think I could have watched that in the theater! Nice week of running! You are doing awesome as usual!

Sorry to hear about the air quality issues – great job with your treadmill workout! IT is definitely a movie I couldn’t be paid to watch…I hate horror flicks, lol! And I hope your boys had a great start to the school year!

When our kids went back to school, my husband and I went to Cedar Point for the day (amusement/coaster park in Ohio)! Love having a “parents” day! feels much like playing hooky 😉 Looks like a great week of training. I’m not sure I would like the pressure of pacing though – looks like you hit your mark!

Is it Week 8, already? Wow! That is cool that you and your husband had a chance to go to the movies while the kids were at school. IT? Yeah, don’t think I’ll watch it at all. I don’t like scary movies.

Haha. I don’t watch scary movies very often but it was great to watch a movie with hubby. 🙂
