After my fast half marathon last Saturday it was a nice recovery week for me. Three weeks to go until the Chicago Marathon!! Wow, it’s coming close! Here’s what I did last week from Coach Dawn‘s plan:
Monday: Plan-Rest or walk, or easy cross train. Took my rest day. My quads were a little sore from Saturday’s race. I went to work and I usually get a lot of steps at work, so I’d say that counts for my walking. 🙂
Tuesday: Plan-Comfortable 30 minutes. Aim for heart rate under 142. I ran 3.05 miles in 30 minutes, avg. heart rate was 132. I felt fine and soreness was pretty much gone.Wednesday: Plan-35-40 minutes. Aim for heart rate under 142. If you are feeling good, throw in a few light strides. I woke up with a little pain in my right calf, which was weird. It felt okay when I ran but I probably shouldn’t have ran on it. I ran for 40 minutes, avg. heart rate was 133.
Thursday: Plan-Rest or 30-35 min easy. My right calf still had the weird pain so I took my rest day. It only hurt when I walked.
Friday: Plan-Easy 6-7 miles. Pace 8:38-9:38. Do a few drills after. When I woke up, the calf pain, whatever it was, was gone. There was a MRTT (Mom’s Run This Town) group run scheduled so I decided to go there for the workout. I had a nice 6.1 mile run. My calf didn’t bother me at all so that was good.Saturday: Plan-Easy Forest Park run if you can do that. Do around an hour and a half. Do some downhill strides- up to 6. If not Forest Park, still just do an easy 1.5 hours, but soft surface would be better. I ran 1.5 hours at Forest Park. It was raining outside and it was nice that most of the trail was pretty dry because of the forest cover. I’m really starting to like trail running.
Sunday: Plan-Rest day. Took my rest day.
Total miles = 21.46 miles. I guess it was a decent week after my race. I’m glad my calf issue went away fast. I really like how Coach Dawn changes it up with the trail running. It’s a tougher workout with the hills but I thought it was fun and a great change of scenery. 🙂
As for the rest of the week, nothing too eventful, most of it spent running errands and we’re still working on the house.
We went to Costco the other day and I had to take a pic of the kiddos with the huge bears lol.My 8 yr old was enjoying his library book so much he wanted to read it in the cart at Costco. That surprised me lol.
How was your week? I’m linking up with HoHo Runs and MissSippiPiddlin for the Weekly Wrap.
I’m also linking up with Courtney at eatprayrundc.com who has a Chicago Marathon training recap link up.
And now you’re starting your taper! Woo hoo! It’s almost here!

I’m glad you took it easy on that calf and the issue went away quickly. We don’t have time for that now! LOL. I’m impressed with that HR. I can’t get mine that low…but then I’m older. Yes — that’s my excuse. HA. Do you have one more long run on your plan? Look at the kiddo reading his book in the cart. That is so sweet. It must have been a good one. Thanks for linking, Sherry!

Thanks Jennifer! I can’t believe it’s coming so soon! Very cool you are eyeing Portland. I’m not sure what I’m doing for races next year yet. But I would love to meet you if you come down!!

I was running in the rain the other day too and it wasn’t too bad when I was on the trails since the trees covered alot of it. Until it started pouring then I was dodging puddles. That is the biggest studded bear I ever saw. Oh my!

Yeah, there were a few spots where I was dodging puddles. Those bears are huge! 🙂

I am looking forward to fall temps so the snakes will go in and I can get out on the trails myself. I really only got to do them a few times last year. It’s a great workout and a nice change of scenery!
Whoa what a huge bear! I mean where would you put something like this???

Haha, yeah not sure. They are so huge! Trail running is a great workout!
