Last week was week 3 of marathon training. It wasn’t a great week but wasn’t too bad either. At least I got my workouts in. Here’s what last week looked like from Coach Dawn’s plan:Monday – Plan: 3 miles easy
6 x 8 seconds hill sprints at 9-10% w/2 minute recovery in between each.
1.5-2 miles easy
Actual: I wasn’t looking forward to hill sprints on the treadmill at 5 am but got it done. Ran the easy parts mostly at 6.4 mph. I alternated between 9% and 10% incline for the sprints and put it at 8 mph. It was harder towards the end. So glad when that was done with but it energized me that morning.Tuesday- Plan: 2 miles easy
6 x 1 min hard/1 min mod
2 miles easy
Actual: It was hard but felt ok overall.Wednesday – Plan: 4-5 miles recovery run.
Actual: Felt good enough to run 5 miles and was surprised to encounter a deer.Thursday – Plan: 1.5 miles easy
4 miles uptempo- 8:00-10
1.5 miles easy
Strength training: 1. Lunges- 12
2. Box Jumps- 5
around height of park bench, or a height that is challenging but you can do safely.
3. Planks- standard and side (30 sec- 1 min)
4. Bench Taps

Repeat x 2- 90 second rest after #4
Actual: Felt ok and worked hard to get the uptempo paces. I also did the strength workout.Friday – Plan: 4 miles recovery run. Core https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aNq5v695T0.
Actual: Ran 4 recovery miles. I did some of the core but not much since I had to get the kiddos to swimming.Saturday – Plan: 12-13 miles. Pace 8:50-9.
Actual: I struggled on this one. I’m not sure if it was because it was warmer out or if my legs were tired from the previous workouts but it was harder to keep the pace. I did manage to stay on pace though.
Sunday – Plan: Rest day.
Actual: Rest day.
Total miles = 39.87 miles. It was a tough week. I’m just happy I got it done and tomorrow’s a new week. I looked at the schedule and there isn’t a hills workout on the treadmill next week. 🙂
As for highlights of the rest of the week:
Nothing that exciting. We did watch the movie Ant-Man in preparation for the new Ant-Man and the Wasp movie coming out soon. I thought it was pretty good. I’m a fan of the Marvel movies. Also, it’s fun watching the kiddos learn how to swim. I’m happy they’re enjoying it. One of these days I’ll learn how to swim properly 🙂 .
That pretty much wraps up my week. How’d your week go? Any races coming up?
I’m linking up with HoHo Runs and Wendy of Taking the Long Way Home for the Weekly Wrap.

Way to stay on pace for your long run in the summer heat! Your kiddos are so cute in their swim gear.

Well done on your training this past week! Tough, but you still got it done! Sometimes I like when the workouts are a little harder than I expect vs. hitting the paces all the time – it definitely helps keep things in perspective.

Wow, lots of miles! Question: does Coach Dawn prescribe strength training as part of your marathon training? If so, is she specific as to what she wants you to do? Just wondering..

Thanks Wendy! She does prescribe training and she usually has links to videos.

that’s a lot of miles! I’m training for a 100K (September 8). I too just started with a trainer, it’s so nice to have a plan that includes strength training and core.

P.S. I just did a tri and I still don’t know how to swim properly…haha

Thanks! Great job on your tri! Haha. Swimming is hard. I need to take lessons since I’ve never been taught.

even if you struggled a bit it still looks like you had a good week 3! I know what you mean about the hill trainings and on the treadmill I would be dying… but so GOOD once you are finished, right? get that morning workout IN!
I just started my week 3! when is your marathon? mine is on September 30th 🙂 I’m doing a race Saturday evening (midsummer run) and likely 2 races (5K and 10K) on Sunday for my long run. I won’t be racing, just running.
