Vernonia Marathon Training Week 1 and Weekly Wrap (11/21-11/27)

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I had a great day spending time with the Fam. Marathon training has begun and last week was officially week 1. I’m training for my 3rd marathon, the Vernonia Marathon that will be on April 9th. I’m happy to have Coach Dawn to coach me again. Here’s what I did from her plan:

Monday – Plan: Aim for around 8:50-9:30 for 40 minutes, with 5 strides mixed in after around 15 minutes. Strides not all out just yet, just some pickups and recoveries around 10-20 seconds. ActualRan for 40 min with strides mixed in. I ended up with 4.48 miles with average pace 8:56, and average HR 147.img_1645Tuesday- Plan: Easy pace, 4-5 miles. Actual: Ran 5 miles, average pace 9:26, average HR 140.img_1657Wednesday- Plan: Rest day. Actual: Rest day.

Thursday- Plan: 6 miles with strides. Pace 8:50-9:30. 4-5 strides after 15 minutes. Actual: I ended up running a little over 6.26 miles, average pace was 9:00, average HR 155, and I did strides after 15 min mixed in.img_1672Friday – Plan: Super easy 3-4 miles. Do a few running drills after and some core work.
You can still do one of your workout videos here also if you feel like it.
Actual: Ran 3 miles, average pace 9:59, average HR 133, and did a few running drills afterwards. Also, did T25 Ab Intervals with hubby. img_1702Saturday –Plan: 10 miles, just an easy relaxed pace. Actual: I did run 10 miles at an easy relaxed pace, average pace 9:36 and average HR 146. I finally tried the Generation UCAN cocoa drink mix sample that I got in Chicago. I think it worked well. It was the only thing I took about 30 min before the run. I just brought water with me and my energy levels were fine throughout my run. I’ll have to experiment more with this but I’m liking it so far.img_1730Sunday – Plan: Rest day. Actual: Rest day.

Total miles = 28.8 miles. I’d say it was a great first week of marathon training. I felt pretty good on my runs all week.

I’m glad I ran on Thanksgiving because I felt better after all the food I ate. I didn’t take a picture of the apple and pumpkin pie but here’s a pic of my first plate. 🙂img_1682

We put up our tree on Friday. My 8 year old really wanted it up so we got it done. The kiddos did a great job decorating the tree. Here are my cute little elves by the tree:img_1719They wore those PJs right before we watched the movie, Elf. 🙂

How was your holiday weekend? Any races coming up? I’m linking up with HoHo Runs and MissSippiPiddlin for the Weekly Wrap.

  1. I was in NYC when the movie Elf came out on DVD so I brought it home to the kids. We all loved that move so much. And, it reminds me of my trip to NY. 🙂 You have the cutest elf helpers! I’m very glad I ran on Thanksgiving morning too so I wouldn’t have any guilt later in the day. Good luck as you begin a new marathon training plan. I’ll be following along. Thanks for linking, Sherry!
