Mommathon 10k Race Recap

The Mommathon 5k 10k Fitness Festival was another great event. This is the second year this race has been offered and is put on by my local Moms Run This Town group, with timing by Uberthons. It was a different course from last year and was relatively flat. There were a few hills but were short. There also was a 5k option which was the main course. I did the 10k so I ran the course twice.Screen Shot 2016-03-03 at 11.20.20 AMIt was a cloudy day with the temps around 52 deg F, according to my Garmin. Not a bad day for a race. The 10k started at 9 am and the 5k at 9:15 am. There also was a kids dash which started at 10:30 am. We got to Liberty High School around 8:25 am and I had my BeetBoost before heading out to get my bib. This stuff is great! I’ll be posting a review and giveaway soon.It was nice that they had bib pickup on race day. I wasn’t able to make it to Washington Square on Thursday where they had bib pickup at Athleta from 4-8 pm. There was a short line which went quickly. After I got my bib, I joined in on the yoga. It was a great way to warm up. I was still wearing my coat since it was cold during the yoga. My hubby was going to take it right before the race but when the race was about to start, he was nowhere to be seen. Apparently he was taking the kiddos to the bathroom. I decided to to give it to to my new friend Kellie, who I just met (she came up to me asking if I was Happy Running Mom, which I thought was so cool and unexpected) who had her husband hold it. Shout out to Kellie who ran her very first race! Thanks for the willingness to help me out! My hubby came soon afterwards and took my coat back. Here’s a pic of the start:My hubby got a picture of me and Kellie waiting at the start. After worrying about the coat issue, I realized I had forgot to get my headphones out of my coat pocket. I was about to go without music for the race. This was a first for me…I was a bit nervous about it since I’ve always listened to  music at races, but I just had to look past it. At least it was only 6.2 miles and not a half marathon.
Here are a few course pics:
It was a little bit disappointing to have to go around strollers and such since I had to pass 5k’ers on the second lap. But I was happy with my finish even when I didn’t have my music to listen too. Someone almost passed me at the end which pushed me to go faster. I couldn’t let her pass me. Here’s a video hubby took:
I ended up with a PR, woohoo! My previous best was 50:25.Screen Shot 2016-03-03 at 4.27.10 PMCheck out the cool medal! It’s also a belt buckle. This year all the Uberthons medals are belt buckles. Love how it’s so unique. Here’s my awesome support!
The post race food/snacks were great:

My kiddos made their own medals:

There also was an obstacle course for kiddos.  img_3436

I didn’t get a chance to do the fitness events this year. I believe this year the events were how many pushups, burpees, squats, and high knees you could do in a minute. Overall, it was another fantastic event. Be sure to check out the other Uberthons events. I’m looking forward to pacing their half marathons again.

Do you have any races coming up?

  1. Congrats on your PR!! A huge one! So fun your little ones were able to make their own medals (I wouldn’t mind doing that). I’ve never done a 10K in which I had to loop the course – I see how it could get annoying with bumping other runners participating in another distance.
