Top Fitness/Health Apps that I use (All Free)

Here’s my list of top fitness/health related apps. These are the apps that I’ve been using lately that are awesome!

1. My Asics – Run Faster Longer, Personalized Adaptive Training Plans. I recently got this app and I like how it’s personalized. You input your goal that you want to finish your race and other info and it makes a training plan for you. I think it’s pretty cool. I’m using it right now to train for my half marathon in September. Free training plans are available for marathon, half marathon, 10k 5k, 10 mile and 5 mile distances. Here’s a screenshot of my schedule for the week:

2. FitSnap. I love this app to post runs and workout pictures. It easily adds my workout information on my pics to share and looks cool. I like posting these to help keep me accountable. Currently, FitSnap is only available on ios. Here’s an example of a pic using Fitsnap:

3. MyFitnessPal. I like using this when I want to get an idea of how many calories I’m eating. It’s a great way to track your calories and has a huge database of food so you don’t have to enter the nutritional info for many things. You can also enter your calories from working out or runs. It syncs with many apps like RunKeeper, andย it automatically puts how many calories I’ve burned when I run, so that’s cool. Here’s what it looks like:

4. RunKeeper. This is a nice app thatย tracks your paceย andย measures workout distance. If you don’t have a GPS watch, this is a great app for you. Iย mostly use it because I likeย the audio cues to give me an idea on pace and distance when I run. Also, I use it to get points with Nexercise as well as it being nice that it syncs to MyFitnessPal. But the downside is that I don’t think the tracking is very accurate. My Garmin seems to be more accurate and consistent. If you don’t have a GPS watch then this should suffice. Here’s a screenshot to give you an idea of the app:20140713-215358-78838764.jpg

5. Nexercise. This app is a nice fitness tracker and another way to motivate you to exercise. I log my workouts, or you can sync through RunKeeper and you get mPoints which you can redeem for rewards. There’s lots of activities you can track like Beachbody workouts and even playing with kids.ย You can addย friends to compare rankings, get support, track yourย weight, and progress. I like how I can earn rewards from working out. I’ve redeemed points for Amazon gift cards.

6. Charity Miles. This is a great app that donates money to the charity of your choosing, and there’s a long list you can choose from. For every mile you run, walk, or bike, the app will measure your distance and you’ll earn money for charity: $0.25 per mile for runners and walkers and $0.10 per mile for bikers, courtesy of their corporate sponsors like Timex Sports, Humana, and Lifeway Foods. I love that I’m donating money by running!

7. ShoeCycle. This is a nice app to track how many miles your running shoes get. They say to change your shoes every 300-500 miles to prevent injury. This easy to use app can track multiple shoes too. I like the interface and how you can even take a picture of your shoes.

8. 7 Minute Workout “Seven” with High Intensity Interval Training Challenge. I think this is a great one for traveling, when you don’t haveย any workout dvds with you, or are short on time. As long as you have your phone, you can follow the exercises and do it anywhere. I like how it gives you a total body workout, has a timer and audio cues. If you are not familiar with the exercises, there are pictures. The exercises are great! You also have the option to make it longer than seven minutes and do up to five circuits. Also, every second month you stay in the 7 month challenge you unlock a new random workout. Here are a few screenshots:

  2. I’m getting overwhelmed w/ the number of apps but right now my primary ones are running apps like Nike+, Strava and Wahoo Fitness. I did not realize Asics had an app – I wear their running shoes. #wowlinkup

  3. I only use RunKeeper Tabata app. I use it for run/walks and when I’m riding my bike. Occasional, I might use my Fat Secret app for calorie counting but I can tell how many calories are in the foods I eat now. Visiting from the #wowlinkup
